Breaking ones sprits….

Fredrick Douglas as a narrator is devastating, because it is so depressing on how cruel people could be. I hate hearing stories where people become as evil as the devil. The idea that someone could not feel horrible about abusing slaves is beyond me. It is so disheartening.  One of the things that I always have a hard issue with is the idea of going from moral to immoral. One example of this is Sophia Auld. She is ignorant of the “rules of slavery” and treats Douglas well. Like a really person, teaching him to read and caring, a basic motherly tendency but the due to social pressures she looses that, and becomes cruel. It is so divesting to see how slavery not only destroyed the African American population but ruined the souls of the white people as well. The idea of soul is something I have become very aware of since I have came to college. I have really grown to value a person’s soul. That is how I value people. I look into people’s soul to see how they think, how their morals are, how they make the world around them better. So the idea of someone being a “soul crusher” or respected because he can destroy someone’s soul is disgusting to me it make me sick to my stomach. I have no respect, well honestly pure loathing for the people who can act like that or who could do that without exploding, or dying for that sin.
